Fursuits are costumes worn primarily by members of the furry fandom. They are usually animal inspired and often based on the wearer’s favorite animal.

Most fursuits are made primarily of faux-fur and foam, but may contain 3D printed parts, molded parts, composite materials, electronics, and more.

While there are bases, templates, and popular pre-made suits available from a variety of creators, most suits are bespoke creations made by or for a single person. These frequently have many elements personalized to the wearer.

Fursuits have similarities to mascot costumes, and some Fursuit creators also create mascot costumes for organizations. The major aspect that makes a fursuit different is that it is usually made for one person and usually represents them and not an organization.

Fursuits don’t need to be made of fur either! Synthetic creatures, reptiles, and other creatures may not have fur so they may be based off leather, synthetic fabrics, composite materials like carbon fiber, or other plastics or metals.
